apartment 42
Written by Isabella Perversi & ross dwyer

directed by ross dwyer

Apartment No. 42' is a 20 minute short film shot entirely in the city of Stonnington. With surrealist elements, and a little sprinkling of comedy, this subtle thriller explores the themes of escapism, existentialism and longing.

Apt. No. 42 is the latest outing from Mad Hatter Films, written by award winning playwright Isabella Perversi (Canary, What rhymes with orange?) and actor/director Ross Dwyer (Safe Home, Warnie), the film wrestles with the purpose of life and questions the possibility of changing one's history.

The film centres around Sid (Berk Ozturk, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Clickbait), a 28 year old lost soul. Somewhat of a transient, Sid has just moved into the building for a short period before heading to Berlin. On the night in question, stumbling home, he realises he’s locked himself out of his apartment. Saving him from the cold, he is invited in by his incredibly personable, charming and positive neighbour (Anthony Barton). Despite their obvious clash of ideals, Sid finds a sense of familiarity and safety in his neighbour. However, as the night draws on, the cracks start to show and everything isn’t quite as it seems.
